For the Indian festival of Deepavali this year I made some jewelry to match my daughter’s two outfits.  I posted the first pair of earrings a couple weeks ago (click here to view that free pattern).

Today I am sharing with you the other set that I made.  I based the colors and shape from the design that was on the shirt of the outfit.  Obviously it was a perfect chance to use my border buddy again to make the squares! (click here to see how use the border buddy tool)

I can’t give you the pattern for this set because I forgot to write down the lengths of paper I used and the size of the border buddy level.  Boohoo!!!  I was so sure that I’d be sharing this on the blog soon enough to remember what I had done.  I should have known better.  I have so much on my mind each day that I really depend on my notes when I make paper quilled jewelry!  I keep a notebook at my desk for which I draw a sketch for each design I make along with notes about the lengths of paper for each part and anything else necessary so I can recreate it.  I’m sure I can recreate this design again, and I can tell the sizes of some of the pieces, but not enough to write down a pattern at this time.  Perhaps in the future I’ll make it again and take notes!!

But for now at least I can share the photos and hopefully be inspirational for others 🙂

I used clip on earring hooks for this pair as it was for my daughter who does not yet have pierced ears.  We’ve tried a few types of clip on earrings and this style with the screw back is most comfortable for her.

I used a border buddy (you can find it at Custom Quilling, and on Amazon) to create the square outlines for this set.  I used the tip that I share in my other post which is to continue to glue the strip down as you wrap it around the border buddy.  This creates a more sturdy square that keeps its shape.  If you don’t have a border buddy, check out my recent post on alternatives for the border buddy.

I used gold edged black paper from Lake City Craft for the gold accents in this set.  I always love the look that those gold and silver edge papers give!

For those who are curious, for this set I used a liquid sealer as a base coat for making them sturdy, and then I added a bit of water to some diamond glaze and gave it a final coat with that.  I used a little paintbrush to apply both layers (I let the first layer dry fully before applying the diamond glaze). Find diamond glaze at Scrapbook.com, Blue Moon Scrapbooking, or on Amazon

If you make paper quilled jewelry, do you write down notes so you remember exactly what you used to make the piece?
